We collected millipedes and sticks that looked like millipedes from the brick red cliff walls of the beach. Dried and looping, the shining black segments broke apart with handling, empty tubes with a flurry of legs beneath. The sticks kinked and scaled too, the leaf scars like tentacle suckers.
